Ideally health and medicine should be non-partisan issues. I try to keep politics far from my approach to healthcare. Unfortunately at the moment, there is no way of getting around the fact that the policies that are allowing the pollution of our air, water, food, personal care products, and more, are being driven by the more conservative lawmakers (this has not always been the case, but as of now, it definitely is).

The real "cure" for the immune, endocrine, and neurological issues caused by exposure to toxic chemicals is to reduce the number of chemicals. As a naturopathic doctor my goal is always to "treat the cause".  In this case, the true cause is lack of regulation of industries that produce toxic chemicals.  Addressing the true cause means increasing regulations on the chemical-producing industries (fossil fuels, agriculture, processed foods, plastics, cosmetics, textiles, and more).  It means accepting the reality of climate change, and working for clean energy and sustainable practices. It means putting human health before corporate profit.  These things seem obvious, and non-partisan to me.

Regardless of other conservative/progressive opinions on fiscal or social issues, I do think that preventing the poisoning of ourselves and our children should be a no-brainer. If you are inclined to get involved in lowering the number of toxic chemicals we are exposed to, here are some organizations you can check out.  Obvious disclaimer, they are currently considered extremely progressive, left of center groups, and are quite opposed to the current conservative stance.  You have been warned.

These are the big guys.  There are literally hundreds more; some national, some international, some working at state and local levels. Donate, protest, sign petitions, spread the word.
